The Archdiocese of Mexico has issued guidance on the levels of modesty expected from Catholic women.
Mexico warns women to cover up

Their "sheet values" on modesty, which were published on-line this week, includes advice that to avoid sexual assault, women should not wear "provocative clothing" or enter into "conversations or spicy jokes" with people of the opposite sex. The Archdiocese adds that the practical effect of pornography is "mental prostitution."

"When we display our bodies without shame, because what we expose is prostitution in other feelings towards us those who are not eligible, unless they wish to be publicly owned, that is, we are being prostitutes, even mentally," said a priest. "That's pornography: mental prostitution," he added.

"If you want to avoid a sexual assault ... Do not use provocative clothing ... Care for your eyes and your gestures ... Do not stay alone with a man, albeit [one known to you] ... Brook no talks or spicy jokes ...” said the priest, Sergio del Roman, in a document to be used as preparatory material before the VI World Meeting of Families to be held in Mexico in January 2009.

The priest believes that "fashion" is a synonym for displaying the body and thinks that the “free use of fashion and comfortable clothing” allows women to be sex objects for men around them.

The priest expressed regret that the body is exhibited “daily” and asked that parents teach their kids to behave with modesty at home.
